Emmerdale’s Anil Goutam had a starring role in a raunchy series.
The actor made his debut as Amit Sharma on the ITV soap last year, introduced as the brother of Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) and biological father of Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson). But before this, Anil starred in Netflix’s Obsession.
The erotic thriller was released in April 2023 and tells the story of an affair between Anna (Charlie Murphy) and her boyfriend’s dad William (Richard Armitage). The raunchy show features a number of sex scenes and even full frontal nudity.

Obsession was deemed so racy that the streaming service were forced to slap a content warning on it to warn viewers. A tweet from the UK Netflix account said at the time: “If you’ve made the (questionable) decision to watch Obsession with your parents, these are the moments you’ll probably want to excuse yourself.”
Anil appeared in all four episodes as Edward, an influential and wealthy Member of Parliament and the father of Ingrid Farrow (Indira Varma) – William’s wife. Prior to landing his role in the TV miniseries, Anil portrayed Ranveer Gulati on EastEnders.
Ranveer was murdered by Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) after he attempted to rape Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal). He has a habit of playing villains on UK soaps as it is likely Amit was involved in Rishi’s death.
It was revealed that Amit was present when Rishi died. He was later spotted having a clandestine meeting with his solicitor where he sarcastically branded his brother’s death a tragedy.
Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) begged Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) to believe him when he said his biological father dodgy, but he refused. During Wednesday’s instalment (March 27) of the ITV soap, Jai discovered what Amit has been up to.
Determined to get to the bottom of his suspicions, Jai followed Amit to a meeting with a woman named Dee. Jai watched his father hand over the takings from the Hide to his loan shark in an attempt to stop her chasing him for the rest of the money he owed.
When Amit returned to the Hide, he claimed a group of thugs ambushed him and stole the money. They insisted Amit should contact the police, but he was determined to handle the matter personally, all while Jai watched.
