Emmerdale Charles star’s love life with DJ partner – first meetings to showing support

Emmerdale’s Charles Anderson recent proposed to Manpreet Sharma and things didn’t go to plan.

The proposal left Manpreet utterly bewildered and due to taking place in the pub, the doctor felt pressured especially as eager barmaid Gail Loman announced the duo were engaged before a reply had been revealed.

Manpreet later sat Charles down, admitting she felt pressured and that she hadn’t realised he was being serious about the engagement, thinking it was just show for the bishop. Fans will have to wait and see if the pair make it down the aisle.

But away from the ITV village, actor Kevin Mathurin has been living in bliss with his partner, with whom he has been with for over a decade. And much like his character, Mathurin’s journey to love was not so easy, involved crossed paths and a lot of waiting. So, as Charles revels in his newfound love on the ITV soap, Daily Star looks at actor Kevin Mathurin’s love life and his decade-long marriage.

First meetings

Kevin revealed previously that he met his future partner DJ Nikki Beatnik back in 2003. The actor ran into Nikki in a strange twist of fate when they both attended the Fashion Rocks with Kelis gig at the Albert Hall.

However, after the chance meeting in 2003 – which was entirely platonic, the pair would go off on their separate paths until meeting once again in 2012. The pair’s lives had changed dramatically from their former selves and after being re-introduced at a Christmas party by Nicholas Pinnock, the couple saw chemistry and never looked back.

Committed love

Since then, the pair have been happily shacked up together, finding a multitude of ways of show their love and appreciation for each other. While this does not include wedding vows and getting hitched, it means the pair are still able to prove their affection and keep their relationship going strong.

Kevin and Nikki welcomed a son into the world eight years ago and have since moved to the East London suburb of Lewisham. Giving their baby boy the name Harvey, the couple take turns to look after him whilst the other earns money through playing DJ sets or extensive acting.

The twosome also have other commitments together after the couple adopted two baby dogs together. Named Gracey and Purdey, the canine friends are considered just as much of the family as their child, making the group a happy family unit.

Showing support

Both Nikki and Kevin support each other in their work to help strengthen their bond

Both Nikki and Kevin are both active on social media, offering glimpses of their lives to loyal fans and followers. Often, the pair share snaps of their weekly shenanigans, including spending the weekend with their son, or getting stuck into a tasty meal.

One clip saw Mathurin make a tasty roast meal for his family, adding to the caption: “While I make the most of being home for the weekend by cooking our Sunday roast. The weekends are so important for us to be together, collect my thoughts and recharge. Hope you’re all having a good weekend with loved ones also.”

As a couple, the pair also support each other in their work and they like to promote each other’s achievements. It is clear to see the couple are in love with each other and are there for each other in the good and the bad times, after Kevin sadly lost his uncle during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Regarding work, however, there are some issues as Kevin often stays in Leeds in order to film his scenes, whilst Nikki and Harvey stay at home in London. Whilst he admitted that was hard to find the perfect balance between his relationship and his career, Mathurin said that he makes it work to get the best of both worlds.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
