Escape to the Country star living in van for heartbreaking reason finds dream home

Reality show star, Bev from Bordon in Hampshire, featured on the BBC hit show, Escape to the Country for her house hunt.

She was clinging onto a big dream despite life throwing her a tough challenge. Life turned upside down sooner than she thought and after a tragic twist of events, she had to sell her home and started living in a campervan.

On the show, she spoke about her current situation and said, “This is where I currently live, in my campervan. I sold my house in February so I’m now looking for somewhere else to go.” She added: “My husband and I always wanted to have a nice place to move on to as our forever home but unfortunately he died last year so now it’s just me and Indie (the dog).”

Bev wasn’t focusing on size while hunting for her new home; instead, she aimed at a residence with enough outdoor space. After the relocation, she still intended to keep the campervan, hence a spacious driveway was among her prime needs, reports the Express.

Her requirements were quite simple – she desired a two-bedroom set-up, an additional building and lots of outdoor room. Nevertheless, she was ready to drop a whopping £450,000 for her dream abode nestled somewhere lovely within Carmarthenshire.

She shared: “It just has this really light, open feel and it’s so beautifully quiet. I am apprehensive slightly, I’m used to having my husband there who would see the things I don’t always see. So this will be the first house that I actually see myself and decide on, so that’s quite a big move.”

Presenter Ginny Buckley, Bev and her son Joe all went house hunting on the popular BBC show. The first house they saw was near Llansadwrn village, and all of them said they liked it immediately, calling it “fabulous”.

Bev really liked how the old house and the new parts were put together, and she was happy about an extra little house in the garden. She also loved that there were four acres of land.

The Victorian cottage with two bedrooms was asking for about £450,000 and Bev thought it might be the one. The next house they looked at was in the countryside with great views, close to Llanarthney village.

This old farmhouse from around 1860 had lots of land too. But Bev didn’t feel the same as she did when she went to see the first house. The mystery house was located in the heart of Cynwyl Elfed village, giving Bev a taste of life in a close-knit community.

Bev wasn’t sure about the village location, but she liked the character and light in the detached four-bedroom house. The land was smaller than she’d hoped for, but the river flowing past at the end of the large garden was a plus.

The house was on sale for £425,000, but Bev didn’t quite seem convinced. Bev was left in tears after finding her dream home on Escape to the Country and it reminded her of her late dad.

The house hunter fell in love with the first property she viewed in Carmarthenshire, telling the show: “It’s just the garden, and everything about it was just right for me, I think the house is just the right size for me.

“Having that extra in the outbuilding as well, for the boys to come up (and stay), really works well. And when I get that feeling I have to go with it. I’m going to talk to the estate agent tomorrow.”

Her fellow house hunter, Joe, added: “My dad would be over the moon, I think he would have been very proud of her.” You can catch up with Escape to the Country series 24, episode 36 now on BBC iPlayer.
