In the documentary, Freddie bravely opens up about his ordeal less than two weeks after the crash which left him house-stricken with injuries and anxiety for months.

Covered in bruises, he tells the camera: “”Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened. This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already. I need help. I really am. I’m not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes.”

BBC pulled Top Gear off-air following the Morgan Super 3 trike Freddie was driving, alongside a member of the film crew, somersaulted and smashed into the track.

A source told MailOnline: “They had only just set off and were on the first corner when the car flipped and he scraped his face along the tarmac.”

Flintoff had to wait 45 minutes before being airlifted to hospital where medics told him he’d suffered broken ribs and horrific facial injuries.

Sources say they were “more severe” due to the fact the trike didn’t have a roof. Freddie and the crew member were reportedly ‘dragged along’.

“It was a freak accident and somehow the car flipped over and the two men were dragged along,” an insider previously told The Sun. “Freddie and the crew member were both wearing helmets, but it was still a severe accident. Everyone on the scene was shocked by how serious it was and they were very worried about the two men strapped in.”

A close source to Freddie claimed he confided in friends that both emotionally and physically, the impact was substantial, per The Times. “Freddie has been seriously emotionally and physically affected by the crash. He is a daredevil, that’s what he does, and he doesn’t feel like he is able to continue to play that role on the show.”

Top Gear has been axed by the BBC after Freddie’s horror smash, with a spokesperson previously revealing they’d “decided to rest the UK show”. Bosses have been apologetic towards Flintoff, reportedly settling with the TV star with a payment of £9million. It’s been claimed the amount didn’t come from licence fees as BBC Studios is separate.

“We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery,” the BBC said. “We understand [halting the show] will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgement about how best to continue later this year.” It’s thought he’s now recovering from his injuries ahead of his new show.
