Ruth Jones has appeared to tease the fate of Nessa and Smithy in Gavin & Stacey following the surprise proposal cliffhanger.
Back in 2019, fans were over the moon when the BBC show returned for a one-off Christmas special episode. But things took a dramatic turn when Nessa (Ruth Jones) asked Smithy (James Corden) to marry her.
However, in typical Gavin and Stacey fashion, the episode ended right before Smithy revealed his answer. As expected, fans were left up in arms over the cliffhanger.

But now, show creator Ruth has appeared to tease the fate of Nessa and Smith after the shock cliffhanger. This week, the actress, who is starring in the new Sister Act Musical, appeared on BBC Radio 2 Zoe Ball Breakfast show.
The host Zoe asked: “Have to ask you, everyone always says, Smithy is still waiting for an answer from Nessa after that proposal.” Ruth replied and seemed to confirm that Smithy and Nessa were living together in Barry.
She said: “Is he thought? Is he waiting? We don’t know. James and I think those characters exist and that Nessa is still working down the slots in Barry Island at the moment. We like to think their lives are carrying on down there.”
When quizzed about whether fans will see the gang all together again Ruth said: “Who knows, you never say never in this world do you? I don’t know.”
It comes after it was reported that the BBC and Netflix are locked in a battle to secure the rights to another special episode of Gavin & Stacey. However, it seems no cast members have been contacted by show writers James and Ruth.
Speaking to the Mirror, Alison said: “If we did another series or episode, I would absolutely love it. But at the moment, as far as I know, it’s not going to happen.”
Gavin and Stacey first broadcast in 2007 and ran for three years, with its final outing a Christmas special in 2019. That episode proved the most viewed programme in a decade, with more than 18 million glued to the box as Nessa proposed to Smithy.
Stacey star Joanna Page, who shot to fam thanks to the role, spoke out about the rumours Gavin and Stacey was coming back while on The One Show earlier this month. She told hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas: “I don’t know anything at all.
“I’ve got no other information. Absolutely nothing. Don’t know anything at all, Sorry, I’ve got no exciting information.
