Gemma Arterton reveals director ordered her to have sex on screen leaving co-star ‘mortified’

Film star Gemma Arterton revealed a behind-the-scenes clash over a steamy scene that left her co-star squirming in embarrassment.

The 38 year old James Bond actress recounted to Radio Times how she shut down a director’s demands for an on-screen romp, stating: “The director said, ‘You’re going to s**g on the bed’. And I said ‘No, this scene was written for us to be off-screen, so you just hear the noises.”

She continued by highlighting the discomfort it caused for her colleague, adding: “I’d never have accepted the role if it was going to be filmed. He put pressure on us on the day. The other actor, God bless him, was mortified. There were very high-profile people there. I said, ‘You can’t do that, I’m flat out not doing it’.”

Arterton didn’t mention the film but noted the incident took place before the era of intimacy coordinators.

Reflecting on past pressures and present changes, the one-time Bond actress shared that although it would’ve been tougher to refuse in her youth, she finds today’s environment vastly changed, reports the Mirror.

On the press rounds for her new movie The Critic, which features Sir Ian McKellen, Arterton has been talking about her experiences, including her delightful times with McKellen and his unfortunate tumble from the stage during a recent performance.

She said: “Taking a break for Ian is actually a good thing, because he works non-stop. He has such an energy and zest and loves his work and loves life. So taking two months off is what normal people would do.

“But honestly it was one of the biggest privileges of my career working with him. He is just the loveliest, warmest… but he pinches himself every day that he’s able to do this job.

“It’s hard to think that because he’s an icon, but he’s so down to earth and glad to be there, and that’s why, I guess, he works all the time. He just loves the work.”

Chatting up a storm with Chris Evans on Virgin Radio about the upcoming film dropping on September 13th, Gemma gushed: “It’s a gorgeous film. We had our premiere two nights ago. I thought it was really good, and I think the performances are excellent. So I hope people go and see it.”
