The mum of late Gogglebox star George Gilbey has revealed his final words to her before his tragic death.
George tragically lost his life last month after plunging to his death from the roof of his workplace in Essex. Now, heartbroken Linda McGarry who starred on the Channel 4 show with him has opened up on the phone call she received from George just hours before his passing.
Linda, 74, said: “He was happy. He ended the call with ‘I love you’. I treasure those words.” Last week an inquest heard that George suffered severe head and torso injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Devastated Linda also explained that her son was earning as much cash as possible to move closer to his daughter, Amelie, who he was dedicated to co-parenting.
She told the Sun: “It was an honour for him to have been my son. We had a blast for 40 years.” Linda also explained that George had been struggling with his finances and demons in recent times, as well as being troubled by her Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis.
Linda continued, adding that he had stayed with a relative the night before he died. “He phoned me at 9.30 on the morning and said he was working — and asked me for his ‘breakfast money’,” Linda said.
“I put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he seemed fine. He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working. He ended the phone call by saying, ‘I love you’ like he usually did. I treasure those words.”
Last week hundreds of mourners gathered to say farewell to George at his funeral. The funeral’s Order Of Service was full of photos spanning decades with an image of George heading into the Big Brother house marking the cover of the celebration of his life. The poem Afterglow was also read out during the heartbreaking service.
“George has been laid to rest and his family have said their last goodbyes, it was a terribly sad day and devastating for everyone concerned, particularly his mother Linda who was in bits,” a source told The Sun. “George also has a daughter and it was terrible for her as well as his ex-partner.”
He was laid to rest following a short inquest hearing in Chelmsford that was told that he fell through a skylight while working on a roof. A post-mortem examination found his injuries were “consistent with a fall from height,” Essex coroner’s court heard.
