Gladiator Cobra star Michael Wilson has opened up about his health issues after the iconic show makes a comeback.
The 80s TV icon spoke exclusively to the Daily Star about having to cancel his surgery as it would leave him “immobile for months” and due to the show’s resurgence, he’s recently booked more jobs.
Michael, 60, is recently covering from Covid which impacted him a lot more due to having “scarred lungs” from when he formerly suffered from double pneumonia and pleurisy during a month-long hospital stay.

He told us: “It’s been a problem because I’ve got a scarred lung and some residual stuff from when I had double pneumonia and pleurisy, I had to stay in hospital for a month, that wasn’t good.
“I’ve now cancelled the operation I was gonna get, I was going to get a tendon from a cadaver, underneath my rotator cuff, there are no tendons whatsoever. They’re all ripped off. I’ve got loads of loads of work coming in with Gladiator bits and pieces. And I can’t take the time out really. I’ve got bills to pay.”
Talking about the pain he’s in, Michael added: “It doesn’t hurt, there’s nerve damage there so I don’t have any pain really. I’ve got a full thickness tear on the front of my other arm, that needs looking at they can’t reattach it because it’s got six bolts from a previous tearing. Yeah, it’s not just having one arm done, it would be both, I’ll have to be immobile for months and months.”
“The left one, I do have a lot of pain from. But the surgery won’t give me that much more movement. I can’t lift the arm to the side at the moment, and I have to use my lat muscle to lift the shoulder out.”
Michael still tries to to stay fit and has to exercise still to keep his muscles strong. He explained: “I have to do physiotherapy. I have to keep the opposing muscles on this arm as strong as possible on the bicep. I’m trying to keep the legs strong to support my hips so I don’t have to have another hip operation again because over the last five to 10 years.”
The TV star confessed that he almost didn’t make it after a tough health period a few years ago. Talking previously about his problems to the Daily Star in 2021, he said: “I’ve had two new hip replacements and nearly kicked the bucket there, that wasn’t good. But I’m really am looking after myself now. If I get Covid, because my lungs are permanently damaged, it would not be good.”
Gladiators airs every Saturday at 5:50pm on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
