Gladiators Cobra star Michael Wilson has shared his thoughts on the reboot and claims the costumes aren’t to his taste.
The original 90s star was a fan favourite back in the heyday of the show and has expressed his views on the latest series. When asked what could be improved on the programme, he answered: “The outfits…
“They’re really unflattering and just horrible really. I thought they could have done a lot more with them.”

He also stated that he wasn’t sure on the presenting combo of Bradley Walsh and his son Barney. “I’ll have to watch a little more, but after initially seeing them, I’m not sure if was the right fit,” he said.
The original Gladiators cast were world-wide stars and conjured up a fan base from all corners of the globe. He is still met with some strange fan interactions nowadays, then these days they come in the form of Instagram DMs.
Michael told us: “They are actually really rude. They send pictures of them wearing stockings and suspenders. I don’t know why they think it’s enticing because it isn’t. Some of them are shocking but I guess it’s flattering really – but I can’t say I’m interested.”
Before the days of smartphones, the Glads used to receive a hoard of fan mail in the post, which were not PG all the time as well. He added: “Back in the day, there we didn’t have phones with cameras and social media, instead we just got loads and loads of stuff in the post and fan mail for me anyway.
“Right from the very start, we were up in a press office where someone handled my post for me, and they said ‘Oh, sometimes people seem to like sending you really filthy letters.
“Sometimes they seem to send public hair in the post. I laughed and said ‘Well, you better keep them and we will make a wig for Wolf’. Well, c’mon he used to talk about being bald and stuff all the time, and I used to tell him to shave it off. After he eventually did it, he said he wished he had done it years ago.”
Gladiators airs every Saturday at 5:50pm on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
