Dancing on Ice host Holly Willoughby couldn’t hide her upset when Eddie the Eagle was eliminated from the show.
Sunday night’s programme (February 25) was the quarter-final and saw the six remaining celebrities and their professional skating partners take part in guilty pleasures week. Hoping to impress judges Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean and Oti Mabuse and guest judge, Johnny Weir, the celebs skated to songs that they secretly loved.
But it was the end of the road for Eddie and his dance partner Vicky Ogden. And after it was revealed he was leaving, gutted host Holly admitted: “It’s hard to see them go”.
Eddie went up against former Love Island star Amber Davies in the skate off who was convinced that it was her time to go. Talking to presenters Holly and Stephen Mulhern before the judges gave their results, Amber said: “If it’s my time, then it’s my time.”
But fans at home were left stunned by the final decision especially due to the fact that the judging panel were divided on who should be sent home. In the end, head judge Chris decided to save Amber.
Seeing the results, fans at home were disappointed as they were certain Amber never skated on her own long enough during her routie earlier in the show. Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts.
One social media user fumed: “An absolute disgrace Amber was told to skate on her own, she did for all of 20 seconds. Eddie skates on his own all the time so they send him home. Eddie was far better in the dance off.”
Another penned: “So the skate off is a waste of time. You put through your favorites regardless of performance. Eddie did way more skating on his own, did turns and lifts etc… but maybe just not as popular.”
A third annoyed viewer also wrote: “It’s not that I don’t agree, I just think Eddie was better & deserved to be in the competition next week – the judges keep saying how they are looking for people to solo skate and add spins etc.. but it’s as if they turned a blind eye tonight for Amber.”
Defending the judges decision and Amber’s place in the semi-finals, one fan wrote: “@Amber_Davies7 is getting way too much hate. It’s called dancing on ice, it would be weird for her not to be in hold at all! Partnering someone and being in sync can just be as hard! And she is actually dancing on ice not just skating on ice!”
