Hit film Heathers had eerie link to stars’ deaths after ‘foreshadowing’ tragedies

Two actors who starred in 80s flick Heathers spoke lines that foreshadowed their real life deaths.

In the film, Kim Walker’s character Heather Chandler quips the sassy line: “What? Did you have a brain tumour for breakfast or something?” Sadly, the actress died of a brain tumour in her Los Angeles home on March 6, 2001, 13 years after the film was released.

She was known for her role as Heather, but also for Say Anything… and A Reason to Believe. Elsewhere in the film, Jeremy Applegate’s character similarly predicted the actor’s own fate.

The star played Peter Dawson and in one scene, he eerily mentions the cause of his own death 12 years later. While at Heather’s funeral, he gets down on his knees to pray and clasps his hands in front of his chest before uttering: “Dear God, don’t let this happen to me. I don’t think I would be able to handle suicide.”

According to reports, in the years following the film’s release he was “under a great deal of pressure” and “troubled with depression”. He sadly took his own life in March 2000, almost exactly one year before Walker died.

In Heathers, Peter and Heather briefly dated before the events of the film took place. He told everyone at her memorial service that she broke up with him because she found Dawson “boring”.

On a Reddit post for the Heathers musical, one person noted the horrifying similarities between the pair and fans of the film gathered to share their thoughts. One person said: “Yeah…that happened. RIP,” while someone else wished “both actors” to rest in peace.

Another person typed: “That’s actually really tragic,” as more fans wrote their condolences. One comment read: “I always saw people talking about these two tragedies together. RIP.”

Heathers is a black comedy film starring a number of famous faces, including Winona Ryder, Christian Slater and Shannen Doherty. The movie follows four girls, all named Heather, who form a popular clique in their high school.

The film takes a dark turn when students start getting murdered, but are staged to look like suicides. Heathers received a wide reception and since its release in the 80s, it has been turned into a stage musical and a television series.
