Hollyoaks viewers were left gobsmacked as the identity of Tony Hutchinson’s (played by Nick Pickard) new love interest was disclosed in Tuesday’s (1 October) episode of the Channel 4 soap, which is now available to watch online.
It’s now out that Tony and Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) are looking to start divorce proceedings following some pre-time jump marital woes. Rumours had it Tony might be playing away with Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson), but she was just a rehearing.
Their meeting ended up being a straightforward sit-down hashing out the divorce details. Maxine tossed the divorce papers in front of the pair and prompted: “If you both can just sign here, we can begin the divorce proceedings immediately.”
Post mediating the messy divorce, Diane revealed all to her mate Marie Fielding (Rita Simons), lamenting over her and Tony’s split: “Now that it’s done, I’m not sure that I’m happy,” she mused, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Whilst the pair tried the old “nothing-to-see-here” with the children regarding the split, Ro Hutchinson (Ava Webster) got wind of the separation saga snagging a peek at the draft divorce documents.
Tony was later seen turning on the charm, whipping up a storm in the kitchen for Marie, and lo and behold, they confess they’ve got the hots for each other, deciding it’s time they come clean to Diane.
Hollyoaks fans were left in shock as Tony ditched Diane for Marei, sparking a social media frenzy. One viewer posted: “She’s palling up to Diane it’s gonna kick off.”
Another chimed in with: “That is beyond a joke.” One fan expressed their thrill: “Loving this storyline.. While another simply declared: “Knew it.” Not everyone was pleased, though, as one commenter scoffed: “What a complete joke… I like the new Hollyoaks, now this pairing? I’m no sure I like it now..”
The drama heightened after Tony and Marie shared a sneaky kiss during a cook-off, all while Ro’s eyes were peeled on them. With Ro witnessing their intimate moment, will Tony’s fling with Marie be revealed to Diane, or will he manage to concoct a scheme to keep the secret under wraps?
Hollyoaks airs Monday to Wednesday on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 from 7am
