Hollyoaks icon ‘should never have been axed’ says star as soap bosses make huge U-turn

A Hollyoaks icon has responded to producers axing one of his co-stars.

Actress Tamara Wall was let go by bosses last year after 10 years playing blonde bombshell Grace Black. However, the fan favourite is set to make a huge comeback in upcoming scenes after new execs at the Channel 4 soap asked her back to play the iconic character again.

In the Spring trailer for the Channel 4 soap, which dropped last week, eagle-eyed fans spotted footage of Grace appearing in prison-based scenes with recent returnee Freddie Roscoe, played by Charlie Clapham, who has recently returned after seven years away from the village.

The pair seemingly team up after something bad boy Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) has – but will they get away with it? Actor Charlie and Tamara have been pals since they first appeared on the show and the soap hunk says that he believes Grace’s exit last year was a questionable decision and he “can’t imagine the show without her”.

He told Daily Star: “As far as I’m concerned she should have never have left in the first place. She’s been a part of the most successful period of Hollyoaks and I can’t imagine the show without her. When I heard she was leaving, from a distance, I was quite saddened. She’s great and she’s that larger than life character and matriarchal figure. It’s been so fantastic to get to work with her again. It’s been electric.”

It comes after the news that Stephanie Waring has been axed from Hollyoaks after playing Cindy Cunningham for 28 years. The 46-year-old actress is one of the soap’s longest-serving characters and she’s admitted that the news she will no longer be playing the character has left her “heartbroken”.

The decision comes after Owen Warner’s final scenes as Romeo Nightingale played out earlier this year and Scott Drinkwell actor Ross Adams confirmed his exit from the soap. Major job cuts among cast and crews have been made by bosses following the announcement that the number of weekly episodes will be cut from five to three later this year.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on E4 at 7pm and first look episodes can be streamed Channel 4 at 7.30pm
