Sherrie Hewson has opened up on the “very confusing” scenes in Hollyoaks as she gets into the nitty-gritty of the soap’s recent developments.
The Channel 4 soap sent shockwaves through with an unprecedented storyline leap, culling beloved characters amidst budget constraints. The show’s daring temporal skip was a creative pivot to counter financial pressures, trimming the cast and scaling down on the weekly offering to three episodes from the standard five.
As fans grapple with the change, Sherrie peeled back the curtain during her chat with Johnny Seifert on the Secure The Insecure Podcast. Johnny probed: “Well it’s a really weird year for Hollyoaks and I actually thought you had left the show because you’re not in the titles at the moment.
“And obviously we’ve had the time jump now. So what’s gone on with you and that because we haven’t seen you in, I don’t know what we call, what do we call it 2025 or do we just say one year on but we There’s a year that just didn’t exist, the COVID year.”
The actress responded openly about her character Martha Blake’s status in the narrative: “Yes, I don’t know. But I am in the next titles, because I’ve now gone back. I was not there in August, this August gone, because they were going on with the time jump,” reports the Mirror.
“So the next titles, I’m in that. So now I’m back. Having done the time jump, I’m not sure if I could tell you I would, but I don’t know really.”
Sherrie Hewson, who’s back on our screens, has spilled the beans about her character’s latest antics, saying: “I’ve been in a home, I think. I’m out of the home now. I’m back with Sienna now. I’m living with Sienna now, but she’s thrown Jeremy out. But now I think we’re all back. It’s very confusing. I just go and I go, what’s the next scene?”
Meanwhile, actor Matthew James-Bailey has opened up about his shock exit from the soap after his character Ethan Williams met a grim fate this Monday (October 7) following his wedding to Sienna Blake (played by Anna Passey).
Reflecting on his time at Hollyoaks and his departure, Matthew told Digital Spy: “It’s really bittersweet. It’s come to an end a lot sooner than I would have liked.”
“In previous interviews, I’ve said that I’d happily stay at Hollyoaks forever. It wasn’t my choice to leave, but that’s just the way that the game works, unfortunately! It’s hard to say goodbye to the fans and all of the people there that I love. But you have to look at it as new beginnings, take the bull by the reins, get back on and do it.”
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays at 7pm on E4
