Hollyoaks’ Ste star teases prison exit and talks ‘downfall’ as court case looms

Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson, who plays Ste Hay, has opened up about his possible exit from the soap.

Kieron has played Ste since 2006, but he could be leaving if he gets thrown behind bars for accidentally killing Warren Richardson’s daughter. Ste fatally ran over Ella with his car and has been wracked with guilt ever since.

Upcoming scenes will show Ste’s fate hanging in the balance as he might get locked away for fourteen years for Ella’s death. And he’s also been threatened by Warren, who is seeking revenge for having to ‘bury his little girl’.

Kieron spoke exclusively to Daily Star about his character’s court case and “downfall” at the BAFTA TV Awards. Asked what’s going to happen to Ste, he said: “The whole year has been about Ste accidentally killing Warren’s daughter [Ella], so it’s been the downfall of his character.

Ste could be leaving Hollyoaks if he’s locked away for 14 years

“What’s Warren going to do to him, he’s kind of pulled him into this world of crime at the minute. And we’ve got the court case coming up to find out whether or not Ste gets sent down for fourteen years, or gets away with it.”

Is it hard playing an apparent villain, he said: “I feel like I started as a bit of a geek, then I went into a villain, then I did all the domestic abuse stuff with Amy.

“Then he got reversed and when Brendan came in, Ste was a victim of domestic abuse. So he’s always flipped to being the villain and the victim.

Defending his character, he added: “Then we did a bit of comedy for a few years, but now he’s definitely in his villain, but not real, villain era.”

Ste will appear in court in July. Teasing more details, he told Metro: “It properly goes to court.

Without giving anything away, something happens on the date of the court case – something huge happens in Ste’s life that will shock the audience. It’s unexpected. It was unexpected for me when I read the scripts and I think the audience are not going to see this one coming.’
