Hollywood legends invaded Great British Bake Off tent as star recalls ‘surreal’ moment

Gabby Logan has described the “surreal” moment she met two Hollywood icons while filming the Great British Bake Off.

Logan, 50, joined the Good Morning Britain team on Tuesday (March 26) to open up on the importance of being checked for cancer, following Kate Middleton’s diagnosis. This also included men, for which prostate cancer continues to be a the UK’s biggest killer – something that Gabby’s husband Kenny knows too much about due to his own cancer scare.

In an effort to raise more awareness of cancer and push for fundraising, Gabby opted to take part in the Great British Bake Off, she told hosts Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid. The celebrity version is in aid of charity, as part of Channel 4’s drive for Stand Up to Cancer.

As a result, the sportswoman was roped in to try out a number of different baking challenges to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood. However, speaking to Susanna and Richard, she admitted that her baking skills were less than desirable.

“My kids knew the deal very early on; I was not going to be the baking mum,” she insisted. “We can buy in the baked goods – I’m a really lovely cook, I love cooking, but baking is so exact!”

Logan began to lament the process of the show’s production, quipping that she made very little effort to prepare ahead of the filming of the show last June. Whilst she somewhat made a start by baking a Victoria sponge, at the behest of her partner Kenny, Gabby did not push the boat out in her preparations for the show.

However, as she recalled her experience of being on the Channel 4 show, she added that some famous faces were shooting nearby. The sports broadcaster added that they then joined the tent itself, as they were big fans of the show.

“And add to all this, they’re making Deadpool at the same time at the same studio, where the studios are…” Gabby explained, as Susanna was left bemused at the stark revelation. “Pardon? What Deadpool – Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool?” Reid asked, puzzled by the remark.

Gabby continued: “And so, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were walking past the tent and then she came and sat in the back of the tent at one point!” Madeley, 67, gave a chuckle, whilst Reid, 53, quipped: “The Americans love Bake Off.”

“It was the most surreal few days of my entire life,” Gabby finished, sniggering to herself recalling her time on the show. The episode Logan stars in will air on March 31 on Channel 4, and will see Gabby take on dancing pro Oti Mabuse, alongside comedians David O’ Doherty and Suzi Ruffell.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
