Homes Under The Hammer star doubled his life insurance after eerie palm reading

Homes Under The Hammer favourite Martin Roberts has revealed he doubled his life insurance after a palm reader told him she saw angels around a break in his life line.

The star went on to cheat death twice after, including two years ago when doctors told him he was hours from passing away after the fluid sack around his heart dangerously expanded. Martin says: “I was at a corporate event in America where they had a magician, someone doing card tricks and someone doing palm reading.

“I put my palm out and she stopped and went: ‘Oh, gee… I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a profound break in a life line – and you’ve got angels here.’ I was really freaked out and went home and doubled my life insurance!

“Five years later I was doing some DIY in Devon using an axle grinder to take a fireplace out. It fell to the floor and sliced through several tendons in my forearm and was close to an artery – it looked like something from The Terminator and required a 10-hour emergency operation.

“I connected it to the palm reader and for that reason it’s put me off ever wanting to have a full psychic reading as I have so much I still want to do.” The 60-year-old, who owns a haunted house in Wales, is deeply in touch with his spiritual side.

After his dad Norman died last year, leaving Martin without either of his parents, the star has been receiving angel signs from him in the form of feathers. Martin, who last year bought the Hendrewen Hotel in Blaencwm, South Wales, says: “It’s really difficult to deal with the fact I was three hours from death.

“I believe the universe provides most when it’s needed and on a day I was at a real low I went on a walk, which I have done 100 times before, and had never seen so many feathers. Every time I see one it warms my heart, it’s a sign from my dad.

“I’m glad I was able to take my dad to see André Rieu perform, and that he died quickly and not in pain, around people he loved, but it was still horrific losing him. I’m an only child so there was nobody to shoulder it with.

“My mum died 20 years ago and it emphasises that you’re next in line when a parent dies.” Knowing how precious life is, Martin has teamed up with Gas Safe Register to encourage people to have annual boiler services, which could save both their lives and pockets.

In new research Gas Safe found one in 10 Brits have had to rely on credit or loans to pay for unexpected repairs and 5% are left in debt as a result. One in five homeowners said they wouldn’t be able to afford more than £1,000 for unplanned repairs.

Martin says: “It’s hard to put money into something when you’re struggling to feed the kids due to the cost-of-living but it can invalidate your insurance if something goes wrong and it’s traced back to your boiler. If it fails it could cost a lot more than a service or repair – or a life.”
