Hugh Jackman is preparing to reprise his iconic Wolverine role and has been showing off exactly how he’s transforming into the ripped superhero with an 8,000-calorie diet.
After walking away from the role seven years ago, the 55-year-old Aussie-born actor is set to make a comeback as the ferocious mutant in Deadpool 3, due to be released in July. The Hollywood star revealed he’s been building up some muscle with a vigorous workout routine as he left fans impressed while showing off his bulging biceps in a video taken during an intense gym session.
Not everyone’s been wowed by his progress though, fitness fanatics slated Hugh for “skipping leg day” as they claimed his legs looked like “straws”. But Hugh’s revealed it’ll take six months for him to get fit enough to become Wolverine again, and working out isn’t the only way he’s doing it.

The X-Men star has also been on a calorific “bulking” diet he hopes will boost his mighty figure. Hugh took to Twitter to reveal his Wolverine diet consists of scoffing down more than 8,000 calories a day.
Alongside a photo of his meal prep, he wrote: “Bulking. A day in the life. Thank you Chef Mario for helping me stay healthy and properly fed whilst… Becoming. Wolverine. Again.”
When he last played Wolverine in 2017’s Logan, Hugh reportedly packed on a whopping 20kg of muscle by devouring between 4,000 to 5,000 calories a day. But this time round he’s upping the ante with an even more calorie-dense diet.
Hugh’s meals included a 2,000cal dish of black bass, veggies, rice, and a herb sauce as well as a Patagonia salmon with potatoes and sauce, coming in at an additional 2,100cals. While he’s already at more than 4,000cals, there’s more to come as Hugh tucked into not one but two chicken burgers with sweet potatoes for 1,000 calories each.
Finally, he also consumed two more meals of grass-fed sirloins with noodles for another 1,1000 calories each. All that brought the actor’s total to 8,300 calories, more than tripling the NHS guidelines, which state men should consume around 2,500 calories a day.
Fans couldn’t believe the staggering amount of food. “Is that per day? Holy hell. So that’s how much I need to eat to get the body I want? My stomach would hate me,” one person commented.
Another wrote: Can’t imagine trying to eat that much food, no matter how fantastic it looks #in Hugh we trust wolverine again.” Earlier this month Hugh revealed training for the role will be his sole job for half a year.
During an appearance on CNN and HBO Max’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? he said: “I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train. That’s going to be my job for six months.”
