Huw Edwards has arrived at court charged with three counts of making indecent images of children.
The 62-year-old was surrounded by photographers as he arrived at court, wearing a black suit, white shirt and blue tie. He also wore a pair of black sunglasses.
In the swarm of cameras, photographers were knocked to the floor as the tried to get a snap of the former BBC presenter. Huw refused to answer any questions as he arrived at court.
During the paparazzi melee, one photographer’s camera was smashed up. Huw was surrounded by eight police officers as he entered Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
Huw is charged with three offences of making indecent images of children. The charges allegedly date between December 2020 and April 2022.
The broadcaster allegedly had 37 photographs on WhatsApp, including six which were classified as the most serious type. He was arrested in November 2023 and charged on June 26.
Huw is accused of having six category A images, 12 category B pictures, and 19 category C. The images were allegedly shared via WhatsApp.
If found guilty, the television star could receive a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Huw had been one of the BBC’s highest paid news presenters before he left the company in April on medical grounds. He fronted BBC’s News At Ten for 20 years and covered major events including the death of Queen Elizabeth II and her funeral.
It was revealed that Huw had been in the pay bracket of £475,000 to £479,999 in 2023/24, presenting for just 160 days as well as special programmes.
