CITV star David Peachey, who was the leading actor in the popular show Bernard’s Watch, has swapped his acting career for a completely different path.
The show, which aired from 1997 to 2001 and had a new series until 2005, followed a young boy who could stop time with his magical pocket watch. Bernard stopping time with a click of a button was a popular show among young viewers.
But now, David leads a drastically different life as a GP in Nottingham. The 37-year-old started his career in drama school alongside Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure and Game of Thrones hunk Joe Dempsie.

Talking about his childhood role, he told Metro: “I was in the drama group and that’s how I got the part in the first place. Bernard’s Watch finished when I was about 13 or 14, and I’d stayed on in the group for a couple of years, but by that time I’d been doing it since I was seven or eight, and I think I was just interested in other things.”
The former actor pursued medicine after developing an interest in science at school. He added: “I fell into it, in many ways, and it was a natural, obvious route to go down at that point, it’s very different to what I was doing at that point.”
David, who attended drama school with some “more successful” stars, modestly said he never expected Bernard’s Watch to be “winning any BAFTAs”. And he didn’t think the show would threaten Hollywood as he pursued his career as a GP.
Despite not seeing acting as his long-term career path, he confessed to a lingering desire for fame as adult. So much so that he even applied for Claudia Winkleman’s popular gameshow The Traitors and made an appearance on an episode of Pointless Celebrities.
He’s also set up a Cameo account, inspired by a family joke and the success of The Inbetweeners’ Jay Buckley on the platform. Although he was a star in the late 90s and a familiar name in many households, the father-of-two admitted that he isn’t recognised these days. However, colleagues often approach him when they learn about his acting past.
Almost 30 years on, David looks quite different too and has a family with two young daughters. He shared that people at work do eventually discover his past and often ask him why Bernard didn’t do more exciting things with his time when he did have hold of the time changing device.
