Wheel of Fortune viewers have been left fuming after bosses scrapped an iconic part of the gameshow.
The iconic programme made its return to screens on Saturday night (January 6) on ITV after a two-decade hiatus. The original programme ran for a huge 14 series on ITV between 1988 and 2001.
Fronted by Graham Norton, the reboot follows the same premise as before. Players have to spin a huge carnival-style wheel in a bid to bag some eye-watering amounts of cash.

Each spin secures the amount of cash they’re playing for and contestants must then correctly guess a letter that will help them solve a word puzzle. Their prize money multiplies with each correct letter they guess.
But it didn’t take long for fans to notice that the show no longer features glamorous assistants. Back in the day, the host was accompanied by a female presenter, such as the likes of Jenny Powell and Carol Smillie, who turned the letters round while they asked the questions.
However, for the reboot, Graham was on his own and the letters turn around all by themselves. Fans slammed the line-up change on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One person said: “Kinda miss the woman that used to turn the tiles over.” Someone else added: “There’s nobody turning the letters round? I’m out.” A third complained: “No Powell or Smilie….format ruined.” Another penned: “No letter turner ffs.”
A fifth fumed: “This is terrible. Where is the classic Theme tune? The sound is terrible, no Assistant to turn the letters. Just doesn’t work – lost its charm.”
Other fans were liking the reboot though. One person gushed: “Already loving it. So so good.,” as someone else penned: “The set looks decent, contestants look normal ish, could be a good reboot.”
News of Wheel Of Fortune’s returned was confirmed last year. Graham at the time said he was “beyond excited” to bring back the “iconic” show. He added: “My first ever TV job was a game show on ITV so this feels like coming full circle. You might even call it a wheel!”
