James Martin’s had a rather surprising reason why he chose not to marry his girlfriend during their 12-year relationship.
The celebrity chef and his partner Louise Davies were a couple for 12 years but it was revealed on Tuesday (March 19) that they had called it quits. They parted ways in December 2023 but remain good friends.
James, 51, started dating Louise, a TV producer, back in 2011 after they met on the set of Celebrity Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?. James had openly confessed that while he loved Louise deeply, he never wanted to make her his wife.

They did live together in a beautiful home in Hampshire, but interestingly, never walked down the aisle. When asked why, James said that he’d had enough of weddings as he’d catered for so many of them, reports the Mirror.

In 2019, when asked about marrying Louise, James told the Sunday People: “No, it doesn’t interest me in the slightest, mainly because I’ve catered for so many weddings, really. I admire people who do it, that’s fine, but I’m quite happy. I don’t need to spend 60 grand on a day, no, I’m more than happy thanks.”
James and Louise tended to keep their relationship private following his split with Barbara Broccoli. But James did admit he was the happiest he’d ever been because of Louise in a 2017 interview.

On Good Morning Britain, James said he was “happy for the first time in my life”. He felt that he and Louise were perfect together, and they didn’t need anything or anyone else to make them happy.
In an old chat, the star said the real reason he and Louise didn’t have kids was because he was “so focused on work”, and it was the “biggest low” missing out on being a dad. “The biggest low of my career is that I’ve given up everything for it,” he told Prima magazine in 2020.

But James had no regrets, even though his friends were “all married with kids”. He said: “The level of commitment it requires and the choices you have to make have a huge impact.”
After splitting from Louise, James has been spotted shopping for watches in Mayfair with personal trainer Kim Johnson. Kim is a divorcee who used to be wed to Arun Nayar, who also used to be married to Liz Hurley.
