Jamie Oliver lashes out at contestant over ‘raw’ prawn dish and reduces her to tears

Jamie Oliver has reduced a female Masterchef Australia contestant to tears by slamming her “raw” dish.

The celebrity chef was appearing as a guest judge Down Under when he labelled 27-year old Alex’s hibachi prawns as “raw” and “undercooked”. The contestants had been tasked with a creating a meal the judges could eat with their hands – with Sam earning praise from Jamie’s co-stars Poh Ling Yeow and Jean-Christophe Novelli first.

However, on sampling the dish Jamie looked disgusted and didn’t hold back when providing Sam with feedback. “I’m not so positive,” he declared. “I respect that these guys had a great prawn but mine is completely raw and my tail is completely overcooked.”

Alex, who had earlier admitted to being a fan of Jamie since she was a kid, immediately burst into tears.

“I’m absolutely gutted right now,” she told the cameras afterwards. “The fact that he couldn’t even eat it has just ruined me.”

In a major shake-up on the show, meanwhile, Andy Allen returned alongside Jean-Christophe, season one runner-up Poh, who replaced replace outgoing Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo, who tragically died last year. Jamie will also appear as a guest in further installments in the series, it has been confirmed.

Jamie said Sam’s prawn dish was ‘raw’ and ‘undercooked’

Earlier this year Jamie admitted his “over-enthusiastic” personality bugged some people. The dad-of-five said he has always been that way, saying he has to be to “beat the naysayers” who try and stop him campaigning for decent school dinners and healthy food.

Jamie said he realised his dynamic “persona” was annoying to some, adding: “With campaigning there are always naysayers. I have to be overenthusiastic, which is kind of annoying… I get it.”

Sam had earlier revealed she’d been a fan of Jamie since she was a child

He said he was often “bouncing around like a nutter” while at work, but added: “Hopefully, after a life’s work, whether you like me or not doesn’t matter as long as you trust me. Obesity and ill health are a normal reaction to an abnormal environment.

“It’s not our individual fault. There’s processed food on every corner.” The restaurateur also admitted employing specialists to “vet his recipes” to make sure he doesn’t “upset” anyone.
