Janet Jackson has cemented herself as one of the biggest pop sensations of this generation.
It’s fair to say that music runs in her family, as the youngest of nine Jackson children and the King of Pop. Arguably the most successful from her family is her late brother, Michael.
But what fans may not know is that the 58-year-old hitmaker is actually related to several other famous faces away from the Jackson five. During an appearance on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday (August 13), the That’s The Way Love Goes singer opened up to Scott Mills about her star-studded family.

The broadcaster began: “Janet, we’ll chat a bit more in a sec. First, I want to play Do I Do from Stevie Wonder. Now, someone told me this earlier, are you related to Stevie?”
The mum-of-one confirmed: “He’s our cousin” as Scott questioned: “How have I gone that long in life?” She went on: “Not a lot of people know that. He’s our cousin, on my mother’s side.”
The 51-year-old star admitted: “That’s blown my mind” before Janet revealed: “So is Tracey Chapman.” Gobsmacked at the revelation, the star gave fans an insight into her famous family tree.
She also revealed Hollywood actor Samuel L Jackson is also a close relative as she explained they are all cousins. It comes after the iconic singer confirmed she will begin a new residency in Las Vegas later this year.
Janet will begin a string of concerts at Resorts Wild Las Vegas – with the first shows set to debut around the holiday season, according to the Daily Mail. The hitmaker’s manager Mo Elmasri told the outlet: “We are thrilled to announce Janet’s upcoming residency at Resorts World Las Vegas.
“This partnership offers a unique opportunity to celebrate her legacy and deliver unforgettable performances. The energy and excitement of Las Vegas, especially around the holiday season, make it the perfect setting for this new chapter.
“Janet is excited to connect with her fans and bring her iconic music to life in a fresh and dynamic way.” It was previously reported that the star was in the “final stages” of signing her deal this week, with TMZ first reporting the shows.
Sources also claim the Velvet Rope hitmaker is set to ring in the New Year with a special performance at the venue. She was reportedly officered a residency in London and passed up the offer because Vegas was a more lucrative deal.
Celine Dion is understood to be in the final stages of negotiating her own residency at the same venue. Her first performance is scheduled to begin in “November or early 2025” depending on the severity of her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome.
