Jeff Brazier has shared a deeply moving confession about raising his boys without their mother, the late Jade Goody.
The 45 year old TV star and father of two candidly discussed the challenges he’s faced as a single parent on the latest episode of the Mile Fly Club podcast, hosted by Laura Hamilton on September 15th.
Earlier in the podcast, they chatted about Jeff’s adventure with his son Freddy on Race Across the World, battling a tough journey from Belem, Brazil, to Frutillar, Chile, alongside other celeb pairs.
The dialogue took a touching turn as Jeff spoke about his second son, Strictly’s Bobby Brazier, expressing a poignant acknowledgment regarding their mum, who sadly lost her battle with cervical cancer in 2009.
With raw emotion, Jeff expressed: “We all know that he’s Jade’s son and we’re all incredibly proud of her for, you know, bringing him into the world.”
In a reflective moment, he added: “I know I had a little bit to do with that, but let’s face it, it’s all about the mum. So yeah, that’s why that was particularly important. I was pleased that he had done that.”
To this, Laura responded warmly: “Aw, that’s such a lovely thing to say; like, it’s all about the mum. It’s not all about the mum, though, is it?”
But Jeff held firm, replying: “It is all about the mum. It is; we could do without dads. ”
He further remarked, “We can do without dads, but we would struggle if we haven’t got the mum. That’s my experience. Yeah, dads can be unbelievable. Dads can be the…I think dads can be enough, but a mum is always enough without question. Is that that shocking a statement?”
Jeff continued, praising women as the true leaders of the world: “Women run the world” or they “should do” and we’re “all much safer” when they’re at the helm.
He highlighted that there’s “less ego” involved with women in charge and they have a “greater capacity” for making decisions not rooted in “self-interest”.
In the same breath during the podcast, Jeff shared his struggles after the tragic loss of his former partner at just 27 years old. At the time, his sons Bobby and Freddy were only five and four.
He opened up about not being with Jade at the time of her passing and how he felt it wasn’t his place to “right to make it about me in the slightest”.
Working on This Morning back then, Jeff also expressed gratitude towards his mum and aunt, who were “incredible” supports as he navigated fatherhood alone.
He reflected: “I remember just thinking this is amazing that my mum can do the school drop and I’ll always be home to pick them up, and I know a lot of kids wouldn’t see their parents that much.
“”But I knew there and then that that was a sacrifice that I was gonna have to make, in that it wasn’t about working all the hours. In fact, I made sure that I didn’t do that.”
