Fans of the hit series Clarkson’s Farm will be saddened to learn that Gerald Cooper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
In the latest instalment of the Amazon Prime series, viewers will see Jeremy Clarkson and his right-hand man Kaleb Cooper deliver the tough news about Gerald, who’s become a fans’ favourite for his work on the farm, especially when it comes to building projects.
But there’s a silver lining later in the season, as Jeremy provides a further update that his pal is on the mend following a medical procedure, leaving fans chuffed that he’s improving. Jeremy has previously gushed about his bond with Gerald, saying: “It doesn’t matter if you can’t understand what he’s talking about, because he’s usually talking about Manchester United.”

He continued: “He’s fantastic. We’ve known each other for a very long time. He’s 72, also never been outside the village, but has worked on this farm for 50 years. He’s a great dry stone-waller, which is a dying art.”, reports the Mirror.
The dynamic duo of Jeremy and Kaleb were in dire need of Gerald’s expertise this year after they accidentally demolished a massive stone wall while attempting ‘unfarming’. With the farm’s usual ventures going pear-shaped due to rubbish weather, and after the driest summer on record, Jeremy faced a nightmare trying to harvest any crops at all.
The potatoes had already undergone a process known as skin hardening, which meant they wouldn’t grow any further. In a disappointing twist for Jeremy and Kaleb, the spuds were even too small to be collected by the machinery.
In another part of the farm, Jeremy was left heartbroken when he discovered his sunflowers couldn’t be harvested and his plan to experiment with new crops on the farm didn’t go as planned. With no oilseed rape available for planting, Jeremy was also slapped with an enforcement notice from the council, instructing him to shut down his restaurant.
This forced them to explore alternative ways to generate income, leading them to borrow a massive blackberry picker.
However, a wall proved to be an obstacle, and Jeremy and Kaleb ended up dismantling more of the wall than picking berries – prompting Jeremy to resort to unconventional methods.
He used a vacuum cleaner to extract the ripe berries from the trees to make jam for sale in his farm shop.
The first four episodes of Clarkson’s Farm will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video from 3 May, with a further four episodes landing the following week on 10 May.
