Jimmy Kimmel calls out Hollywood legend Margot Robbie in controversial Oscars speech

Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t help but poke fun at sensational actress Margot Robbie after she was snubbed at the 2024 Oscars.

The beloved late-night talk show host, 56, welcomed viewers to the prestigious event on Sunday night (March 10). The biggest names in Hollywood gathered to celebrate the best films to hit the theatres over the past 12 months.

It’s fair to say the comedian didn’t hold back with his scathing comments in his controversial monologue as he opened the show. The dad-of- two joked about Margot’s mega-hit Barbie which was nominated for Best Picture alongside the historic epic Oppenheimer.

He began: “Ryan [Gosling] and Margot, I want you to know, even if neither one of you wins an Oscar tonight, you both already won something much more important – the genetic lottery.”

Thankfully, both actors were able to laugh at the awkward joke, but it’s fair to say many members in the glamorous auditorium were subdued and a little uncomfortable. But that wasn’t the only comment Jimmy made about the feminist movie at the awards show.

He went on to slam Academy voters for snubbing Barbie in many categories including Best Director and Best Actress. The TV star went on: “Barbie, what a film. What an achievement.

“To take a plastic doll nobody even liked anymore, now Barbie is an icon thanks to Greta Gerwig, who many people believe should be nominated for Best Director. I know you are clapping, but you’re the ones who didn’t vote for her, by the way.

“Don’t act like you had nothing do to with this.” Later on in the ceremony, Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. managed to pip Ryan Gosling to the post for Best Supporting Actor.

Meanwhile, Margot looked nothing short of sensational as she transformed the red carpet into her own personal catwalk. She turned heads in a beautiful black sequin gown which featured a dramatic rounded neckline and glamorous ruching detail along her waist.

The movie sensation accessorised her ensemble with a gold and diamond bracelet which complimented her statement ring. She parted her honey blonde locks in the centre which cascaded down her back as she beamed to the camera.

Margot, who starred in Barbie the movie as the title character, embraced a natural beauty as she rocked a full-face makeup which emphasised her youthful glow. She added a pinch of blush to the apples of her cheeks which complimented the pink eyeshadow on her lid.

She added a touch of bronzer to the high points of her face and a touch of highlighter for an extra bit of sparkle. To complete the look, she added a thin band of winged eyeliner and lashings of black mascara to her fluttery lashes.

Finally, she added a swipe of nude pink lipstick which she topped with a clear lip gloss as she flashed her pearly whites to the camera. It comes after Barbie emerged as one of the most successful movies of all time.

Meanwhile, Hollywood publication Variety announced last year that Barbie is officially the biggest hit of 2023 in the US. So far, the film has raked in a jaw-dropping $1.36b (£1.1b) at the American box office.
