Kate Winslet in tears over vile body shaming comments on Titanic set 27 years on

Kate Winslet was reduced to tears over vile body shaming.

The actress played Rose in 1997’s Titanic and while on set, Kate was subject to horrible comments about her figure. During a The 60 Minutes Interview, Winslet sobbed as she remembered what was said to her.

“It was absolutely appalling. What kind of a person must they be to do something like that to a young actress who’s just trying to figure it out? I did get the face to face. I let them have it. I said: ‘I hope this haunts you’.”

“It was a great moment because it wasn’t just for me, it was for all those people who were subjected to that level of harassment. It was horrific, it was really bad.”

The interview video then featured a clip of Kate on the red carpet, where someone told her she needed a dress a few sizes bigger and that the piece made her look “a little melted”. This isn’t the first time Kate has addressed body shaming throughout her career.

She has previously spoken to Harper’s Bazaar about her time on set and explained: “There’s a bit where Lee is sitting on a bench in a bikini. And one of the crew came up between takes and said, ‘you might want to sit up straighter’. So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?”

When asked whether Winslet minded looking her age on screen, she replied: “The opposite. I take pride in it because it is my life on my face, and that matters. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”

The starlet is also open about refusing cosmetic surgeries: “I think people know better than to say, ‘You might wanna do something about those wrinkles.’ I’m more comfortable in myself as each year passes.”

Ahead of her 50th birthday, Kate revealed her plans for the year: “I want to spend the year doing 50 remarkable things, whether that’s a particular hike I’ve never done, or acts of kindness. I’m gathering a little list.”
