Kate Winslet said she enjoyed her sex scene with co-star Saoirse Ronan as “women know what women want” in bed.
The Oscar-winning actress, 48, shared a steamy romp scene with Saoirse in their 2020 flick Ammonite, a period drama set in the 1840s which follows British palaeontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet).
She falls in love with Saoirse’s character Charlotte, the wife of geologist Roderick Murchison, and the pair appear in a steamy oral sex scene. Titanic star Kate revealed the saucy scenes were different to bedroom scenes she’d shot with men.

She told The Weekend Australian’s Review about the scene: “It did feel very different. I’ve played LGBTQ characters before. In fact, I played an LGBTQ character in the first film I ever did, Heavenly Creatures.
“I was very young, I had only just turned 17 actually and also I had very little experience of actual intimacy in my own life, so I didn’t really know what I was doing, other than playing the character”.
It turns out the sex scene was shot on Saoirse’s 25th birthday, April 12, and it was a breeze to film because the pair enjoyed plenty of physical chemistry. Kate reckons the saucy scene looked so good because women know how to pleasure one another.
Kate told NBC News: “It just made sense. Women know what women want, let’s not beat about the bush. Saoirse and I knew we could unite in our feelings about these characters and where they’re at, and to tell that story physically. It was a very joyful experience.”
Last week, Winslet opened up about a scene in her 1999 movie Holy Smoke that required her character to strip off and urinate. it turns out there’s a device called a Shewee – which helps women wee standing up.
She told The Graham Norton Show: “There was a wee rig, which was attached to the back of my hair by a little piece of, kind of, fishing wire. And there was a bag of saline drip fluid.
“I had to get this little pipe and, you know, wedge it in a specific spot. The actress revealed the fluid would “gush”, but despite being offered help to get the take right, she soldiered on “to get the wee to hit the floor”.
It took her a lot of times to get it right. “But the problem is, when you’re a girl, it doesn’t go in a stream down the middle. It goes all down the leg”, she added.
