Kirsty Gallacher has given a health update after she was diagnosed with some shocking news.
The TV and radio veteran, 48, was told she had a benign acoustic neuroma, which is a tumour located in the inner canal of her right ear. She first found out about this in the summer of 2021 and left her hosting job at GB News in December later that year due to symptoms of the condition giving her tinnitus.
Talking exclusively to Daily Star, as she promoted National Rail’s new campaign, she opened up about the latest health update she’s had. Kirsty said: “The tumour is a benign acoustic neuroma which they don’t really know how they are caused.

“I am in close contact with my consultant and recently it was great to hear that it hasn’t grown so I can put off treatment. Eventually, I may need treatment to shrink it but with these things, you never know it could shrink itself!
“My hearing is slightly compromised in that ear and it causes low-level tinnitus which can disrupt my sleep but I’ve learnt to live with it and I’m used to it.”
Tinnitus can make noises sound like a ringing, humming, or buzzing and can occur in one or both ears. It can really bother individuals who suffer from it and disturb their sleep and concentration levels.
Kirsty related to these issues at the time and attributed sleep deprivation, due to early starts at GB News, as one of the factors for making her tinnitus worse. She had previously left Sky Sports for the new role.
Shortly after her exit, Kirsty said: “During the summer I discovered I have a tumour in the inner canal of my right ear. Thankfully, it’s benign and not hugely detrimental to my normal life.
“However, the tumour has caused severe tinnitis which makes it difficult to sleep. Sadly my 3am starts at GB News, compounded by sleep deprivation, are exacerbating my symptoms.
“I’ve taken the difficult decision to step back from my role on the Great British Breakfast while I focus on my health. GB News has been incredibly supportive of me and I look forward to returning to the channel as soon as I can.
“As I adjust to managing my condition, I will carry on my less disruptive work commitments and continue maintaining a healthy lifestyle and training so I can get back to my normal routine quickly.”
This comes as Kirsty has teamed up with National Rail to create a new audio series to inspire trips by train to some of Britain’s fantastic sporting locations. Speaking about this, Kirsty said: “I’ve grown up around sport so helping people experience it in real life is something I’m really passionate about – whether it’s going to a game, visiting a sports museum or even trying it out for yourself.
“Experiencing sport in the real world not only fosters a sense of togetherness, but research from National Rail shows many agree it helps build lifelong memories (77%) and creates family traditions (66%).
“Amidst the summer of sport I really want to inspire people to watch, learn about and discover new sporting passions by train so they don’t miss out on the wellbeing benefits that experiencing sports in the real world has to offer. Because when it comes to sport nothing beats being there.”
To help anyone feeling inspired – whether it’s to take up, watch or learn about a new sporting passion – the rail industry has teamed up with Kirsty Gallacher to host a new eight-episode audio series providing a deep-dive into some of Britain’s most popular sports and where to experience them.
