Kym Marsh got “very emotional” as she discussed a heartbreaking family loss.
The former Coronation Street star opened up on BBC Breakfast about the baby loss certificate scheme. The 48-year-old Strictly star tragically lost her son Archie in 2009 when he was born 18 weeks early.
It’s been announced parents who’ve suffered the loss of a baby early in pregnancy can apply for an official recognition of their child’s life. The government has decided to expand the baby loss certificate scheme, initially rolled out in February for losses since September 2018.

There’s no longer a time restriction, so any parent who lost their child before 24 weeks (or 28 weeks pre-October 1992) to get a certificate, reports the Mirror. Kym spoke on Wednesday’s BBC Breakfast (October 9) about the updated scheme and Baby Loss Awareness Week.
Kym said: “Well, I’m very emotional this morning actually so I apologise if I start to get upset! These certificates mean so much as we’ve heard already it makes your baby not just a statistic, my Archie was here, I gave birth to him, I held him, we had a funeral, he mattered, he mattered to all of us.”
“For us to not get anything that recognised he was here was absolutely heartbreaking because he was a little person and he was our little person.”
Kym said she was delighted that the scheme had been extended. She went on: “We’re so delighted, this is a huge win, a huge win for all of us and a huge win for saying goodbye, it’s just fantastic.”
Kym said Archie remains in her thoughts daily and still has his birthday celebrated every year. She revealed: “We celebrate his birthday, we do that every single year.”
Explaining how her daughter Polly, now 13, knows all about baby Archie even though she was born after his tragic passing. Kym added: “Polly, who is now 13, obviously she was born after the loss of Archie, she knows all about Archie.
“We celebrate him, we talk about him, we include him in Christmas, we think about him because he was our child and he matters just as much as the ones lucky enough to be here do.” She added: “So yeah, it’s very important that we remember our children and this certificate is going to help everybody to do that.”
