Liam Payne fronted new Netflix show with Nicole Scherzinger before balcony death

Liam Payne was working on a Netflix show just weeks before his death.

The One Direction star was reportedly working on a series to help create “the next great pop group” in the lead up to his untimely passing. Liam was in Argentina when he tragically fell from a third floor balcony on 16 October.

He was staying at the Hotel Casa Sur and was pronounced dead aged 31. Despite reports that Payne’s second solo album were halted, the former X Factor icon was working on a show with streaming giant Netflix.

It had been announced that Liam was set to be part of the judging panel to “create the next great pop group sight unseen.” The press release for Build The Band explained that Payne was set to star alongside Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger and Destiny’s Child’s Kelly Rowland, with Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean as host.

“Who better to help build a band than some of the most legendary artists who ever did it? These hitmakers will bring their unparalleled expertise and years of personal experience to the competition.”

According to Netflix, Build The Band aimed to “take face to face encounters out of the musical equation” and “instead, the contestants will find their perfect bandmates” depending on their “compatibility, connection and most importantly merit”.

“And when the bands finally do meet, how will looks, choreography and style come into play? Expect plenty of drama, next level artistry and unforgettable performances.”

Build The Band reportedly began filming throughout the summer as Liam and his fellow co-stars were seen out and about in Manchester back in August, just two months before he sadly died in Argentina.

There have been no updates on the show’s production following the news of his death, and it is uncertain how the series will proceed. After the news of his death was made public, fellow One Direction star Louis Tomlinson also spoke about their future career endeavours together.

He wrote: “Liam was an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody, we often spoke of getting back in the studio together and recreate the writing chemistry we had built up in the band.”
