Liam Payne smashed laptop after reading email before falling to his death

Liam Payne allegedly told a woman “I’m so f***ed up” and smashed his laptop on the ground just moments before his fatal fall.

The former One Direction icon, aged 31, spoke to an American woman at the hotel in Buenos Aires right before he fell from his room’s balcony.

Rebecca, not her real name, was one of the last people to speak with Liam prior to the horrendous event, and managed to snap several photos of the ‘Strip That Down’ star at the hotel lobby before his death. In an interview, Rebecca told how Liam’s “bizarre” final actions unfolded.

Post-mortem findings reveal that Liam succumbed to multiple injuries and internal and external haemorrhage due to a plunge from the third-floor balcony.

An announcement from Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No 16 is labelling the incident as an “inconclusive death” and investigations are ongoing following the report’s findings.

Rebecca, a 28-year-old from Washington DC, encountered Liam by chance and spoke to him for about half an hour in the hotel’s lobby that afternoon, she revealed. The singer, who was supposed to have checked out that morning but seemingly hadn’t, reportedly told her at one point, “I used to be in a boy band – that’s why I’m so f**ked up.”, reports the Mirror.

She claims hotel staff were “a little on edge” as Liam had been due to check out but was still on site acting strangely. “I came into the hotel, and he was waiting by the elevator, and it was so clear he wanted someone to recognise him, there was something a bit desperate about him,” Rebecca told the Daily Mail.

The IT consultant recalled how she and her friends recognised him but were unimpressed. “When the lift came he suddenly said to us without any prompting: ‘Yes, I’m Liam! ‘ really drawing it out, and then said ‘All right come on you lot, get in the elevator with me, I love a cuddle’.”

She said she decided against it but one of the other girls in the group started chatting with him. “And then he grabs a girl who I think was with him and starts fake choking her, only lightly, but the others thought it was really disturbing,” Rebecca claimed.

Rebecca then returned to the lobby ten minutes later before Liam also returned, this time with a laptop in hand and began reading emails in public view. Rebecca recalled seeing the singer opening an email that “obviously upset him”.

“Suddenly he took the computer, shouted ‘f**k this s**t mate! ‘ and started smashing the computer on the ground,” she said. Rebecca claimed that staff and guests within the luxury hotel were taken aback by the situation.

She approached the troubled star to see if he was alright but she said he “just sort of grunted”.

“Then he said ‘I used to be in a boyband. That’s why I’m so f**ked up’,” she added.

The prosecutor’s office stated that five witnesses were questioned to piece together the events of October 16 at the CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires’ Palermo district. It’s reported that the hotel staff made two emergency calls, with audio disclosing that a staff member requested help for a guest who was “intoxicated by drugs and alcohol”.

Upon arrival, police and emergency services discovered Liam deceased at the location, and his body was subsequently moved to the judicial morgue. The prosecutor’s office suggested that the musician was alone when the fall happened and seemed to be “going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse”.
