The funeral for Liam Payne is set to take place next month as the investigation into his untimely death is ongoing.
Devastated fans of One Direction have been paying tribute at spontaneous vigils, reeling from the shock of the 31 year old’s death in Argentina last week. The beloved singer and father to 7 year old Bear tragically died after a three-story fall from his hotel balcony at Buenos Aires’ CasaSur Hotel.
Authorities from Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office are suggesting Payne might have fallen while in a state of “semi or total unconsciousness” as drugs and alcohol were found in his room. Reports indicate Payne had various drugs, including crack cocaine and methamphetamine, in his system at the time of his fatal accident.

Prosecutors are also considering the possibility of a drug-fueled breakdown, as he was allegedly acting aggressively in the hotel lobby shortly before his tragic fall. According to initial autopsy findings, the cause of death was “multiple traumas” resulting in “internal and external bleeding”.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that the fall’s impact would have been fatal, with the report noting: “The head injuries were sufficient to cause death, while the internal and external haemorrhages in the skull, chest, abdomen and limbs contributed to the mechanism of death,” A full autopsy report is pending, reports the Mirror.
His parents, Karen and Geoff, have travelled to Argentina to identify their son and arrange for his repatriation. It’s believed the singer’s body will remain in Argentina for up to 15 days while toxicology tests take place.

The investigation into Liam’s death remains ongoing, with the cause currently classified as “inconclusive”. Authorities have spoken to two women seen with the singer on the day of his death and are interviewing hotel staff.
They are also working to identify the source of the drugs found, a process that may take several days. Although prosecutors do not suspect anyone else was involved in Liam’s death, his family may still face an inquest in the UK.
Once that occurs, Liam’s remains will be returned to his family for repatriation to England, indicating that his funeral could potentially take place at the start of November. The British Embassy is providing support to Liam’s bereaved family as they organise arrangements, and it is anticipated that the funeral will be held in the singer’s hometown of Wolverhampton.
It remains uncertain whether there will be an official memorial for fans to honour Liam, as the funeral itself will be a private event, attended by the singer’s immediate family and friends.
