Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy headed home from Argentina in the days before the One Direction star died, telling fans she hated “staying in one place for too long”.
Kate and Liam went to Buenos Aires to attend Liam’s former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert and they stayed for two weeks. She is thought to have headed back home to the US just a couple of days before Liam died falling from the third floor of Buenos Aires’ CasaSur Palmero Hotel on Wednesday (October 16).
She documented her travel back to Florida in a TikTok, in which she told fans: “I was so ready to leave, honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long. We were supposed to be there for like, five days. Turned into two weeks and I was just like, ‘I need to go home’.”

Giving fans a glimpse of her plane ticket, she said: “Of course my seat was 1D. I feel like this happens every single time I fly.”

Kate said that she suffered from “anxiety” before flying and that as a result she had developed a “weird rash”. She shared details of her flight, including what she had to eat and drink and what she watched, and also told fans that she had taken a neck pillow because although she usually used a Squishmallow (cuddly toy) she “gave it to Liam”.
“I was so happy to be home,” she said after she landed, adding that it was “just so relieving”.
In the hours before he died, Liam had shared highlights from their trip on social media. One photo showed him sat down as he joked about dressing up as Tom Hanks’ movie character Forrest Gump for Halloween. He also shared a video clip captioned: “Lovely day in Argentina,” that showed him and Kate having breakfast. “Just enjoying coffee and breakfast even though it’s like 1pm,” he told fans.

The last picture that the singer shared showed him and Kate smiling for a mirror selfie in swimwear. However, the photo wasn’t from the Argentina trip but an old one, as Katie first shared it on social media over a year ago to mark Liam turning 30.
Liam’s death was confirmed on Wednesday night, with a local ambulance manager saying in a statement: “At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel. At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation.”
Local media reports have suggested that there had been reports of an “aggressive” man who was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol prior to Liam’s death. And gossip site TMZ said it was told that the singer had been acting “erratic” in the hotel lobby.
A hotel employee had also called 911, saying a hotel guest was “off his head on drugs and alcohol”.
