According to the SWNS news agency, Karen has told pals: “I’ve lost my beautiful boy.” Since then, she has been unable to say anything else as family and friends rally around her as she remains inconsolable.
Karen has always been at the heart of Liam’s career, being there at the very beginning when he auditioned for The X Factor in both 2008 and 2010. After his career began to take off, Karen was still a leading light for the singer, often gushing over how proud as of her son.
Now, Karen’s good pals and celebrity hair stylists Royston Blythe and Nick Malenko have said that Karen has been left heartbroken after her son’s death. Nick explained: “I messaged his mom Karen this morning (Thursday, October 17); she’s finding it hard to speak about what’s happened, but she said ‘ I’ve lost my beautiful boy’.”
Investigations remain ongoing in Argentina as authorities try to establish the moments leading up to Liam’s death. Hotel staff and guests confessed that the For You singer had been acting erratically in the run-up to the incident, with one hotel guest saying he exhibited “disturbing” behaviour.
Police have released a statement saying that Liam had been found with a bottle of whiskey, a lighter and his mobile phone on his person as emergency services raced to the scene. Frantic calls made by hotel staff revealed that workers were afraid that Liam’s safety could have been at stake.
An ambulance was sent to the luxurious CasaSur hotel shortly before 5pm local time on Wednesday. When emergency officers arrived at the hotel at 5:11pm, Liam was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the news, shocked fans living in the city surrounded the hotel and held a vigil in Liam’s honour, with candles being lit and songs being sung. Liam’s One Direction bandmates have since released a joint statement saying they were “completely devastated” at the loss of one of their friends.
They added: “In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say, but for now we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories that we shared with him will be treasured forever.”
