When Little Mix disbanded, fans were desperate for Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall to launch their solo music careers like their bandmates Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.
So fans were over the moon when Perrie, 30, teased a release date for her debut solo single on Thursday (February 8). But it wasn’t just the details of her upcoming single that grabbed her followers attention.
Taking to her Instagram Story, the mum-of-one shared a handwritten message which read: “Join me 13th Feb, lots of love, Perrie.” But many viewers were left scratching their heads when she signed her name which she accompanied with a heart emoji.

Many fans pointed out that the first letter of her name resembled either the letter S or J with the R’s resembling an M – which they picked up on straight away. It didn’t take long before viewers flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their confusion online.
One user penned: “I’m thrilled for Perrir and I know the music will be banging but I can’t help but see ‘… lots of love, Semi.’ Just me?” Another agreed: “I mean it’s all I can see now!” as a third echoed: “Semi? Jemi? Jenni? OH PERRIE. PERRIE EDWARDS.”
Meanwhile a fourth chimed in with: “lol I was like ‘who’s Jemi?’” Meanwhile others got excited about the announcement, with one user writing: “What we know so far about Perrie Edwards solo debut; ‘ She is experimented with all kinds of genres – Ballads is definitely going to be on the album – She has 3 singles decided, all are different from each other – She invited people to an event on Feb 13th (listening party?).”
In November last year, Perrie shared with fans that she had started that she had started working on new solo material in the studio. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “I think I’m in a very good place with the album right now.
“It’s been an amazing process. I’ve met some incredible writers, incredible producers; people I’ve never worked with before. It’s been really fun, I’ve loved it. It’s been a very different process to being in the band.
“I think it’s brought me out of my shell a lot; I used to use [Jade and Leigh-Anne] as my comfort blanket in the studio. It’s quite intimidating, writing with amazing writers and producers in the room.
“If you have an idea, you’re like, ‘What about this?’ But then you feel a bit silly. I’ve had to come out of my shell. Going into the process, I sat down with my label and said ‘I don’t know if I want to write that much, I don’t know if I’m a very good writer. I’ve always been with the girls.”
But two years after the group separated, Perrie has found a joy for songwriting as a solo artist. She continued: “As the process went on and I started pushing myself more, I realised that I actually love to write music.
“That was a surprise to me. It’s been nice to be ]at my home studio], gaining the confidence to write my own music. Trust me, I’m desperate to give you music – but I just want to perfect it and make sure it’s 100 per cent what I want to release and what I want you to hear.
“I’m cooking away, getting it all ready and I can’t wait to share it with you.” At the time, speaking to Grazia UK, she gave fans an insight into her creative process behind her upcoming debut album.

She explained: “I don’t have a set timeline [for my solo material]. My label have told me to just go with the flow and enjoy discovering what my sound is going to be.
“The fact there’s no deadline in my life just makes me the happiest person. I feel so lucky to just be having fun.”
