When asked who his favourite panellist is, he replied: “I’ve got to say Coleen and she’d kill me if I said no. So I’ll say yes, for fear of attack,” he laughed. The pair both worked on ITV’s The Full Monty together and struck up a friendship from doing the telly job.

The star is gearing up to host the Pride of Britain Awards for another stellar year of celebrating inspirational people across the nation. He will be co-hosting the event alongside Countdown legend Carol Vorderman.

“You do have to keep composed because there’s so that there’s the emotion of the night, there’s dealing with the awards and the unpredictability of what people say, you’ve got adults and kids both there.

“So I think that I keep composed just by I think remembering why we’re all there. I think it’s really easy sometimes, if you’re hosting or presenting to almost want to make it about you and try and be funny.”

He added: “But the night is not about me. It’s not about Carol. It’s not about anyone in the audience. This is about the people, the winners.

“I think that majorly really helps me sort of stay grounded and just want to talk to them, get to know them, and celebrate them a little bit. Because if I think about the scale with the event and what needs to get right, makes me go right.

The event will be taking place on Monday, October 21.
