Lorraine viewers fume at Ranvir Singh after ‘out of touch’ comments on air

Ranvir Singh caused quite the stir when she welcomed Jay McGuinness on Lorraine.

Viewers have been rendered furious after Ranvir Singh slammed the importance of libraries during a candid interview with ‘The Wanted’ vocalist — Jay McGuinness.

Filling in for the usual morning host, who was on holiday, the Good Morning Britain deputy presenter sat down with the pop star to discuss the release of his new book — Blood Flowers.

Billed as ‘A story of love, witchcraft, betrayal and murder’, the new novel is set to grasp the attention of his fans and keen horror readers alike. However, Ranvir certainly won’t be picking up her copy from the local library.

During their conversation, the artist, who is famous for hits like ‘Chasing the Sun,’ confessed that he loves frequenting the library, which prompted an interesting response from the interviewer. Without knowing the backlash she’d cause, Ranvir threw out the comment: “Who goes to the library any more?”

ITV viewers flocked to Twitter to express their displeasure. One person said: “Well, I do, and I know lots of others who do. They are a really valuable part of our community. What a stupid thing to say. There is so much love for libraries out there.”

Another user fumed: “@ranvir01 is so out of touch with what so many believe. She should go and visit a few and see the good they do,” while another added: “Libraries are real hubs these days. They have worked so hard to make themselves relevant. They are places where people access information, learn about and use technology, socialise and loads else. We need our libraries now more than ever.”

A third added: “Shocking as libraries are such a valuable community resource,” as one then put: “I thought the same thing when I watched and laughed too!” A fifth raged: “I thought exactly the same. I thought it was a stupid and slightly ignorant comment.”

Ultimately, Ranvir’s comments were relatively harmless, but she definitely won’t be slating libraries again in a hurry.

The 46-year-old has had a mixed time presenting the show in Lorraine’s absence.

In a moment of TV gold, she was left speechless when Dr Amir accidentally called her ‘Viagra’ rather than Ranvir during one of his segments. However, the pair have since worked things out with the medical expert listening to her discuss her battle with migraines. She said: “Dr Amir joins me now. I have suffered from migraines, and there’s just no getting away from it. It is paralysing.”
