A former Love Island hunk has said that the casting process for the ITV show is “quite scientific”.
Frankie Foster, who appeared on the show’s fourth series in 2018, said that producers deliberately cast people they know will get along. He added that bosses at the show have a hands-on approach for the casting that then completely disappears once contestants are inside the villa.
Speaking to Betfred, Foster, 28, was asked how natural the couplings inside the villa are. He explained how producers wanted to make sure there was a positive atmosphere in the villa from the get go, and this feeds through to who will make it onto the show.

“When casting, the process is actually quite scientific,” he explained. “Behind the scenes, at least when I was on the show, they have what is essentially a professional matchmaker.
“The team quizzes you on the type of people you like and tries to match you up with the other contestants,” Foster added. “So it’s quite deliberate, really, and I think it’s either someone’s or a whole team’s job to make sure they get the right mix of people.”
Frankie stated, however, that once contestants actually make it through the process and bag a spot in the villa, producers take a hands-off approach. He also said that as Islanders run through their time on the show, the dynamics of the game come into play about who can couple up with whom.
As well as this, he also said that the potential for growth as a celebrity is the main motivation for applying nowadays. “No one goes in there for love – everyone knows the deal now,” he insisted.
It comes as the new series of Love Island kicks off next Monday (June 3), with 10 new Islanders set to walk into the newly refurbished villa in Majorca. As fans of the show gear up for another summer of love and drama, Frankie gave some words of advice to the new batch of hopefuls.
“On one hand, just relax and enjoy it — that’s what I did,” Frankie recalled. “However, the less fun answer is to decide what you want to do afterwards and play that game in there.”
He continued: “For example, if you want to be a personal trainer, be a fitness guy when you’re in there. If you’re a singer, go and sing and dance. Basically, just play the person you want to be when you get out.”
The new series of Love Island kicks off on June 3rd at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
