Love Island’s Chloe Burrows admits she faked romance with reality star to ‘cash in’ on pics

Love Island star Chloe Burrows has admitted to faking a romance to see how she could boost her cashflow.

The 28-year old, who finished as a runner-up alongside Toby Aromolaran on the ITV show in 2021, hoped to rake in the cash by being snapped with Harry Johnson. Harry found fame himself in the third series of reality show, Too Hot To Handle, meanwhile.

Chloe said she was inspired by a chat with other couples including Liam Reardon and Millie Court, and Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey, who previously admitted to sneakily cashing in themselves.

The foursome said they staged arguments to fool paparazzi, prompting Chloe to ponder if she too could earn from set up snaps.

“Now I’ve heard how it all works and the big money involved, I want to put it to the test, it’s time to launch my own showmance,” she told her Channel 4 documentary, Untold: Love in the Limelight.

Despite having never met Harry before, the pair agreed to head out on a romantic dog walk, hoping they’d be seen by the cameras. To add to the effect, they also made sure they were snapped together at a restaurant and leaving a hotel in each other’s company.

Soon, those pics were used in the press and were widely shared on social media, and before long clothing brands as worn by Chloe in the shots, were getting in touch with her to discuss sponsorship deals. Further financial offers for interviews followed, prompting Chloe to confess: “If I really was going to be serious, that is so easy to make money off.”

She continued: “You can start to see the web of finances that can go behind a reality couple.”

The fake duo then met with celebrity agent Dave Read, who looks after the likes of Joey Essex and Hannah Elizabeth, to discuss how they could maximise their potential earnings even more. He told them he could see a “lucrative future” for them if they played their cards right – particularly if they could be seen house-hunting or ring shopping.

Chloe said he told her: “There’s no reason that between you in one year you couldn’t bank a quarter of a million pounds.”
