Former Love Island star Malin Andersson has broken her silence on going into rehab after she suffered a series of personal tragedies.
Malin, 31, first shot to fame on the second series of the ITV dating show in 2016, and came out to a multitude of success. But things took a turn for the worse when she checked herself in for a three-week programme in rehab after becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs.
In 2019, Andersson was hit with devastating news after devastating news, when her baby daughter Consy tragically passed away in January. Aged just one month, it came just weeks after Malin’s own mum Consy-Gloria died after a lengthy battle against cancer.

Malin was fortunate enough to bring another healthy baby girl into the world in January of 2022, but soon after – she split from her partner Jared. As well as this, she also lost her dad to cancer, alongside battling eating disorders and surviving domestic abuse, just to name a few of her problems.
Things became so rough for Malin that she turned to the bottle and drugs in order to keep herself sane. As she spiralled out of control following the break-up of her relationship to Jared, he realised that there was problem and told her to seek help.
Although initially denying she needed help, Malin soon saw the light and checked herself into rehab for a recovery programme setting her back £12,000. Speaking to The Sun in a recent interview, Malin said that she is able to enjoy alcohol in moderation.
“I don’t drink every day – I don’t wake up and want to drink,” she said. “Sometimes I can go two months without it, but I was using alcohol and drugs as a coping mechanism.”
Andersson admitted that she could knock back as much as three bottles of wine or champagne before taking on shots. She added that whilst drugs were not always in the picture, they were when she was in the “wrong crowd”.
Following her benders, she would return to normality before the cycle would begin again. Looking back on the tumultuous time, she explained that she felt “ashamed and guilty”, and initially was resistant to going to rehab as it was “nuts” for her to consider it.
Since her time in rehab, she has gotten better but continues to struggle with her health on a daily basis. The TV star admitted in an interview last December that she was struggling with her health, adding in a social media post that she had developed a hernia.
However, things are on the up for Malin as she embarks on a healthier lifestyle and a weight loss journey. She added that since she made the commitment, she has never felt better and “never known anything like it”.
