Maya Jama didn’t hold back and told off a Love Island contestant when he moaned about being paired with a girl who wasn’t his “usual type”.
The ITV dating show returned on Monday night (June 3), with viewers immediately invested as a new crop of singles moved into the villa. The episode saw the Islanders coupled up for the first time – but there was a twist.
The girls and the boys had to rank each other in terms of who had the most girlfriend or boyfriend material and who was lacking in that department, then they were paired up with whoever scored the same as them. Sweets seller Sean ended up with 24-year-old Nicole.

And when the presenter quizzed them about their thoughts on the coupling, he wasn’t all that complimentary. Maya asked Nicole for her initial thoughts, and she replied: “We’ll see, I think.”

She wouldn’t share whether Sean had caught her eye, teasing: “I am not going to tell you that yet. It’s a bit too soon!”
When Maya asked the same question of Sean, he said it was “early days”, and then admitted: “Not my usual type.” He added: “But looking forward to opening my ideas up and getting to know her.”

The host’s jaw dropped as she listened to Sean’s remarks, and she quickly admonished him. “Ok, you didn’t have to say that, but it’s OK!” she told him.
Gesturing towards Nicole, she said: “She kept her cards close. You just flung them out!”
The moment also got fans talking, with many letting rip on X. “How can that Sean guy just say she’s not my usual type in front of everyone, that was such a cringe moment to watch,” said one.

Another said it was “diabolical”, and someone else posted: “Sean is nuts for saying she’s not my type on the first day.” Another wrote: “‘Not my usual type’ Sean c’mon now u didn’t have to say all that????”
“Sean is soo mean for saying that!” said somebody else. “Not my usual type, you’re not David Beckham Sean, watch yourself,” said another viewer.
