Megan Barton Hanson naively thought when she signed up to stripping that she’d just be taking her clothes off for “old men”.
The 29-year-old bombshell opened up to Daily Star about her career before Love Island as she spoke openly about undressing for money. At the time, Megan believed her job in a gentleman’s club would slip under the radar from friends and neighbours – but she was wrong.
Within a week of stripping to her underwear, Megan, who is from South-End-On-Sea, Essex, explained that she was the talk of the small town she lived in. When she accepted the job, the reality star believed the news wouldn’t get out but before she knew it people had formed opinions about her.

Speaking to us about life before the ITV dating programme, she said: “I’ve always been a really open and a sexually liberated person. Even before I had a glamour model contract I was posting quite provocative pictures on Instagram so of course, I come from a small town and everyone had their opinions on that.”
She added: “Then I went into stripping, and again in small town I was naïve, I thought ‘it’ll just be old men in the strip club, none of my school friends will find out’ but they found out within the first week.”
After taking up the position of employment in the sex work industry, Megan faced bullies who criticised her profession. Despite the “hate”, Megan didn’t let it interfere with her goals as she later went on to get her next big break on Love Island.
The OnlyFans model went on to add: “I had a lot of trolling and hate before Love Island and I think it’s important for girls to do what they want with their lives and to not feel judgement from their peers or people in their area.”
She followed up with: “I think a lot of it is naivety and people being narrow-minded. I think you’ve just got to go for what you want in life and be a bit selfish and do what makes you happy, as long as you’re safe, what’s the issue?”

Megan wasn’t about to be beaten down by people who shamed her for her choices. Instead she wanted to seize the day and prove them all wrong. Given it’s reportedly estimated that the online model is banking a whopping £800k per calendar month in subscription fees and promotions, she’s more than done just that.
She told us: “I kind of feel like when you’ve gone through that amount of scrutiny, you kind of get more resilient to it and you realise that these people’s opinions, whether it’s your neighbour down the road or someone in your friendship group, it doesn’t matter their opinion. You’re on this earth once to live your life and if it’s going to make you happy and if you can get in bed at the end of the day and think ‘oh wow, I’m smashing it’ it’s all worth it.”
