Met Gala model who ‘upstaged Kylie Jenner’ claims he was fired and banned from event

Italian model Eugenio Casnighi has claimed he was “fired” from his role at the Met Gala for upstaging stars due to his good looks.

The 26-year-old recently released a TikTok video explaining that he previously worked as a greeter at the museum’s past two event. But he has since claimed he was banned from this year’s bash by organisers after his striking appearance became the talk of the 2023 gala.

The video begins with Eugenio announcing: “I just got fired from the Met Gala,” before showing a photo of himself standing next to Kylie Jenner at the 2023 event. The clip proceeds to show a flashback to last year’s event, organised by Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour.

Eugenio can be seen in the background doing his job, but the person filming the interview seems to have been distracted by his handsome features. The camera veers away from the stars and zooms into Eugenio’s face.

This footage went viral, with text appearing on the screen that read: “Trying to focus on Emma interviewing Jennie but…” Eugenio, who served as a model and greeter for the Met Gala in 2022 and 2023, claimed that he had previously been unable to comment on all the attention due to an NDA.

However, the model has now said: “It’s funny enough, they fired me so I can say whatever I want now.”

Eugenio has claimed that he was set to make a return this year – only to discover earlier that he wouldn’t be welcome, despite his attendance being confirmed a month prior. The organisers of the event blamed him for the unwanted attention.

Eugenio claimed in the video: “They said ‘you made it about yourself, so we don’t want to work with you anymore.’ They’ve let me know, today, that they’ve cut me off. They fired me because I went viral last year.”

The rising star also claimed to have emails and messages supporting his allegations. Speaking to MailOnline after posting the video, Casnighi gave an insight into his experience at attending the prestigious bash.

Sharing his thoughts on last year’s event, he said he was expecting to be working with Kylie Jenner all night as he had been instructed to do so. But Eugenio said he felt disappointed by the decision to remove him from the carpet, with only two day’s notice.

He told fans on TikTok: “It’s funny because the Met Gala and the company that I’m not going to mention… want models to work the red carpet. They want people to get noticed. They literally told me ‘we picked you because we like you more than other people’.

“But when people took pictures of the actual celebrity, like Kylie Jenner and I was next to her, of course I ended up in the picture.”
