BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty was visibly unimpressed with a particular news story, to the point where she felt compelled to interrupt her co-host Charlie Stayt.
The BBC programme returned to our screens on Saturday (August 17), with Naga and Charlie back in charge. However, things took an uncomfortable turn when Charlie began discussing a rather distressing news story.
“This is a story from Florida, and it seems to echo a scene from the film, The Meg, involving a Yorkshire Terrier,” Charlie revealed, referring to the movie that depicts a group of people being attacked by a shark.
Charlie went on to say: “What happened was, Maddie, a nine-year-old Yorkshire terrier, was swimming off her owner’s boat, and suddenly Maddie vanished beneath the water.”
However, Naga started to squirm, interrupted Charlie, and raised her hand towards him. She asked: “Hold on, is this going to be a grim tale?” reports the Express.
Ignoring Naga, Charlie continued: “Maddie was submerged in what appears to be a shark attack.”
Once again, a concerned Naga interjected and queried: “Is this a grim tale so far?”
Charlie then detailed how the dog managed to “resurface.”
He added: “The vets who examined her initially thought she had been struck by the propeller because she was bleeding.
“But actually, it turned out to be bites consistent with a shark attack.”
He concluded: “And the veterinary experts believe Maddie had been pulled underwater, with bites on her rear, fracturing her pelvis in three places.
“But, the family believes the shark let go of the dog because of its unfamiliar furry taste.”
Naga then added with a sigh: “I’m glad Mandy is recovering, but wasn’t a great story in terms of a nice story.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
