Netflix fans can’t stop watching “mesmerising” new game show thriller with a hidden twist.
Over on X/Twitter, Netflix fans have been gushing over the new competition show which has been compared to the iconic Squid Game, which was released back in 2021. One person said: “Omg okay this show is insane, Koreans never disappoint #the8show.”
Another said that the “opening is too excellent” and left them “mesmerised” while a third person chimed in with: “Just finished binge-watching #the8show (2024) and this show was really excellent, like a real black comedy thriller as well as a psychological drama. The ending was a bit lame, but the acting and artistic direction was insanely amazing.”

Someone else posted a clip from the show and branded the scene “so f***ing trippy” that they were left “gagged”. Others commented on actress Chun Woo-Hee’s performance and said: “How versatile is [she]! I’m watching the Atypical Family and The 8 Show at the same time and she’s blowing my mind!”
Another Netflix streamer said the star was “an absolute delight to watch” while someone else said they were “loving her performance”. The 8 Show is branded as a dark comedy and tells the story of eight people trapped in a secret building.
The space is divided into eight floors and the contestants must work to earn money as time passes. The 8 Show is reportedly based on Naver webtoons Money Game and Pie Game created by Bae Jin-soo.
Netflix released the show worldwide on May 17 and the series has received huge praise so far. Production reportedly had a budget of over $20.98 million invested and was filmed throughout 2022, featuring Ryu Jun-yeol, Park Jeong-min and Lee Yul-eum among others.
Many online fans have compared the show to Squid Game and Alice in Borderland, two shows based around competition and survival that have a similar premise to The 8 Show. One person tweeted: “Why had The 8 Show on Netflix not [had] more attention? Not seen anything about it and I think it’s just as good as Squid Game.”
