Netflix fans are raging over “incest” sibling scenes in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
One scene shows Lyle and Erik, played by Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, kissing one another. Over on X/Twitter, viewers were completely shocked at the portrayal and didn’t hold back sharing their thoughts.
Someone branded Ryan Murphy “sick” and the series “grotesque,” while another horrified Netflix streamer wrote: “I still can’t believe how they were able to portray the Menendez brothers as if they were incestuous.”

“The Menendez brothers deserved a proper amplification of the story of how they got abused by their father and not whatever this is,” added another furious critic. “Ryan Murphy you are a sick sick man,” chimed in another.
“If Ryan wanted to make a show about twin brothers developing an intimate relationship with each other due to shared sexual trauma and parental abuse, then he should’ve written a new story. You don’t get to rewrite the experience of real people and REAL VICTIMS to suit yourself,” scathed another tweet.
Others said that “it’s what they expected from Murphy,” questioned “why he would do this,” and some even claimed that they “won’t even watch that sh**” after hearing about the plot. One angered viewer added: “This Netflix series about the Menendez brothers is F***ED, made out that the brothers were incest and not sexually abused by their old man, how the f*** have Netflix got away with this[?]”
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story is the second instalment in the Monsters anthology series from Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The Netflix description says: “This riveting true-crime drama probes the lives of the Menendez brothers, convicted of the brutal 1989 murders of their parents in Beverly Hills.”
During their trial, the siblings said that they murdered their mother and father as they feared he would do the same to them for threatening to expose years of sexual, emotional and physical abuse. However, the prosecution argued back with claims the brothers were intent on inheriting the family fortune.
