Many members of the Facebook group gathered in the comment section to agree with the original post, with one person saying: “It was a wonderful love story! My heart ached for dayzzzz.” Another said: “Absolutely loved this, I have never cried like I did [watching] this,” as someone else chimed in: “The fact that it was based on a true story is what shattered me most [crying emoji] Nice watch!”
A fourth comment read: “From Scratch, [I] was a crying mess, beautiful series,” while another one said: “Amazing, heart breaking, lovely movie!” From Scratch was branded “beautiful,” a “heart-jerker,” a “great movie” and “so good” by other fans in the group.
From Scratch features Zoe Saldaña and Eugenio Mastrandrea, and is inspired by Tembi Locke’s memoir of the same name. The series has one season which runs for eight episodes and was released in October 2022.
A synopsis of the series explains: “An artists finds romance with a chef in Italy and embarks on a life-changing journey of love, loss, resilience and hope across cultures and continents.” Zoe’s character Amy is “torn between her dreams and her father’s expectations” so decides to flee to Italy for an art programme.
While there, she meets chef Lino and the pair eventually build a life together across the world in Los Angeles. The romantic drama series was given a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and generally well-received by Netflix viewers.
One consensus reads: “By turns a buoyant and wistful romance, From Scratch is an emotionally resonant miniseries that benefits from its Italian scenery and Zoe Saldaña’s considerable dramatic chops.”
Elsewhere on Netflix, Baby Reindeer has taken the world by storm and many Netflix streamers have been left floored by the series. The dark and disturbing show follows a man who is being stalked by a woman and the miniseries has been very well received by audiences.
