Netflix’s new true crime documentary, Lover, Stalker, Killer, has left viewers vowing to never use dating apps again after being left shocked by a horrifying case.
The “wild and crazy” film, which was released on February 9, tells the story of a jealous ex-girlfriend who stalked her former boyfriend and took her obsession to a deadly extreme. It features interviews with the ex-boyfriend, Dave Kroupa, as well as detectives who cracked the insane case, which was full of twists.
The “creepy” documentary reveals that after getting out of a long-term relationship in 2012, Dave started online dating and met single mum Shanna “Liz” Golyar. He told Golyar he was just looking for a casual relationship and she appeared to be okay with that — until he started seeing another woman.

Dave had an instant connection when he met Cari Farver but after a chance encounter saw Cari and Golyar briefly cross paths, the love triangle took a horrifying turn. “If y’all haven’t seen Lover Stalker Killer on Netflix yet boyyy are y’all in for a treat,” one viewer Tweeted.
The 90-minute film is full of unexpected turns, revealing that Golyar was handed a life sentence in 2017 for murdering Cari five years earlier. But one of the most shocking elements of the case is how she managed to get away with it for so long.
Golyar evaded capture by pretending to be Cari for four whole years. Dave, who had a whirlwind romance with Cari after he met her when she visited his car repair garage in Iowa, initially thought it was Cari who was stalking him, but it was actually Golyar.
After a two-week fling, Dave received a breakup text from what he thought was Cari. In truth, it was Golyar, who killed Cari and stole her phone.
For years, Golyar acted as if she was Cari, even going as far as running her online profiles. In the meantime, Cari had missed big family events, including her father’s funeral and son’s birthday.
But the truth only came out when cops found a photo on Golyar’s tablet of what looked like a dead body tied up. A foot with a Chinese tattoo, just like Cari’s, was in another snap.
The Netflix documentary racked up more than 10 million views in just two days and true crime lovers have been declaring it a must-watch. “Can everyone please watch Lover Stalker Killer on Netflix it’s bizarre and creepy,” one person tweeted.
Another said: “Lover, Stalker, Killer on Netflix is a wild documentary. Highly recommend.” A third added: “Lover Stalker Killer is one of the most mental true crime documentaries I have ever seen in my life, what the helllll.” Others revealed the sinister case has turned them against dating apps.
“I was just about to download a dating app and decided to turn on Netflix instead, I watched Lover Stalker, Killer, and now I’ll never use a dating app again,” one person said. A second wrote: “Documentaries like Lover, Stalker, Killer are the reason I have never had & never will have a dating app.”
A third agreed, adding: “If you are into Documentaries please go to Netflix and watch ‘Lover Stalker Killer’. That s**t will make me never want to date or talk to anyone from an online dating app again, like genuinely F*** THAT.”
